Amy Umbel

Growing up in the rural landscape of Appalachia, Amy has always had an appreciation for hand-skills and craft. She picked up her first Mora at age 12 and taught herself how to carve wood in her father’s woodshop. She made woodworking a priority in 2012 after reacquainting herself with carving by learning ancestral living skills and bushcraft. Since that time she has become a woodcarver and an internationally known green woodworking teacher. She believes that carving is about intention and having fun. Amy visited Sweden last year spending several weeks working with Surolle and Beth Moen.
