The Dala Red Edition
The Dala Red Edition
The year was 1912 in Mora. Anders had just finished another long work day at the knife factory and could finally walk home to his wife Anna and their newborn. As he came around the corner of the factory, he passed two colleagues that had a wild argumentation about something they were bothered about. Something about the knives.
‘A handle made of mahogany!? It would be too expensive for people’s wallets, and who would then make use of the knife? A Morakniv is made to be used! We must come to a closure with these questions!’
Later that night, Anders went to bed with an idea that would fundamentally revolutionize the company and its innovation capacity for years to come. His idea was simple, yet genius. Instead of buying expensive an mahogany tree, he proposed that the knives could be painted in red colour to imitate the exclusive mahogany. Since then, a Morakniv has forever been easy to recognize its characteristic Dala Red colour.

More than a hundred years have now passed and it’s time to highlight our own red colour throughout the years as well as the hard-working men and women that have made it possible. It took us years to perfect the knives we make today and they are still all produced in the village of Mora, Sweden. Because just like you, we know that quality takes no shortcuts.
