The companion is an excellent design for a mid-sized fixed blade knife. The Companion HD takes it up a level by adding just a bit more to the blade thickness and grip.
People who talk about quality “for the price” have missed the mark. These are excellent, simple knives that just happen to be inexpensive due to a smart, manufacturable design.
And they are robust! The tang, tightly bonded to the polymer handle is more than enough to take anything I could hope to throw at it, while the “scandi” grind of the blade makes for a durable, reliable and easily maintained edge. The carbon blades take a vinegar bath well adding a good amount of corrosion resistance.
Companions are very popular among our search and rescue volunteers here in Eastern Canada as their front-line utility knife. This is a knife meant to be used.

Ben using mine for 5 years and I love it. It’s been through the swamps of TN and works great for dressing deer and turkey. It holds it’s sharp edge longer than any knives I’ve ever owned.
