Morakniv is one of four companies being nominated for the award Export Company of the Year 2021 by the association Dalarna Business. The winning enterprise will be announced at the event Star Awards in January 2022.

The criteria are, among others, that the company should have a communicated and long-term export business strategy, where an international business represents a significant part of the total sales revenue. Moreover, the company must have its base and headquarters in Dalarna.

The jury’s motivation is, “With its head on its feet and a sharp strategy for production in Dalarna, the company has grown further during the pandemic. Made in Sweden and a sharp brand are of great importance when conquering new markets and customers.”

“The nomination of Morakniv is the result of a solid work performed by many engaged coworkers. For many years we have actively, and with success, targeted different export markets with both our own staff and through carefully selected partners. Regardless if we stand as winners at the Star Awards, this nomination itself is proof of our success” says Johan Burtus, CEO at Morakniv.

Dalarna Business works for an even stronger business community in Dalarna and creates conditions for entrepreneurs and business leaders in Dalarna to meet. An important task for Dalarna Business is to create an understanding of the importance of entrepreneurship for a strong and stable societal development.

A Morakniv is always made in Mora
The journey for Morakniv begins in 1891 when Frost-Erik Erson returned home to the village Östnor in Mora after four years in North America. When he started his timber sledge factory, the first seed was sown for what would eventually become the company and brand Morakniv as we know it today.

In the beginning, Frost-Erik only manufactured knives for the factory’s internal use, but production would soon grow and more and more knives could be sent out in both Sweden and the world. Today, Morakniv has sales of almost SEK 220 million, of which over 70% are sold outside Sweden.
